BCT-16 Introduction
 
Technical Aspects
 
1) New Generation Modularized Detector
 
  • The detector design uses an optimized ultra-high speed rare earth ceramic scintillating material that increases the quantum efficiency detection. The material also has a very quick decay time and is less susceptible to radiation damage. This design ensures longer life and stability of the detector and can produce good image quality at a lower dose.
  •  
  • The unique compact ASIC chip allows the detector module to have a smaller overall package size. The ASIC has lower electronic noise, high sampling rates and has better detection performance at low contrast levels.
  •  
  • An innovative anti-scatter grid (ASG) with optimized tungsten plates are used in the BCT-16 system. The ASG design fully meets the Scatter to Primary Ratio (SPR). The ASG design implements a special process to maintain its stability and interface to the detector modules.
  •  
  • The detector is segregated from the heat generating sources in the gantry to reduce any temperature variations that the detector would be exposed to. This greatly improves the thermal stability and operating environment for the detector.
 
 
2) Multi-Point Temperature Control Technology
 
  • BCT-16 has multi-point temperature control technology; it measures the real-time gantry temperature changes and can rapidly adjust the system temperature through its cooling mechanism, ensuring a stable working condition for the system.
  •  
  • Meanwhile, it also measures and controls the real-time detector temperature. This enables the temperature consistency in different detector modules and eliminates the artifacts caused by the temperature deviation between modules.
 
3) One-Side Integration Design For The Gantry Control Unit
 
  • BCT-16 system controls were designed and packaged to in a single location on the gantry.
  • This optimizes the cooling that is required for the components and provides a platform for meeting all of the shielding requirements for EMC.
  • In addition the system controls packaging design allows for minimum space being needed for maintenance.
 
4) Operation interface and operation flow
 
  • The GUI or operator interface was designed with the end user in mind.
  • The operator interface is simple and allows easy operation of the system while being fully functional and meeting the functionality requirements of the end user.
 
5) Scanning Parameters
 
  • BCT-16 has the fastest scanning speed among all the 16-slice systems with a scan speed of 0.5 s/360°.
  • This not only gives you quicker patient throughput but also reduces any motion artifacts that would be due to any respiratory motion.
  • The helical pitch range of BCT-16 is 0.25~2.0, the maximum helical scan time is 100s, and the maximum helical scan range is 1700 mm.
 
6) Intelligent dose control technology(WIP)
 
  • BCT-16 is equipped with imA intelligent dose control technology which can automatically adjust the generator's current output according to the different X-ray attenuations that are needed for scanning the different areas of the patients anatomy.
  •  
  • The mA value is updated and optimized to only use what is necessary for a specific area of the patient’s anatomy.
  •  
  • This allows the image quality to be uniform across the entire scan range and also reduces the radiation dose received by the patient.
 
7) Auto bolus tracking(WIP)
 
  • BCT-16 is equipped with the auto bolus tracking function.
  • Detecting the CT value changes in the region of interest (ROI) after the contrast agent has been injected.
  • When the CT value exceeds the set threshold, the scan will be triggered automatically.
 
8) Distinguished Image Quality
 
  • Under the support of powerful hardware and technology, BCT-16 is able to achieve a distinguished image quality, using the CATPHAN phantom, at 120 kVp, 200mA, with a scan speed of 1s with a slice thickness of 1.2 mm.
  • High contrast resolution can be achieved of 14 lp/cm at MTF = 10%, 21.8 lp/cm @ MTF = 0% and a low contrast resolution can be achieved to 3 mm @ 0.3%.
